The Onyx blend offers sweet notes of mandarin orange and apricot, with a cedar finish. Enjoy the balance.
I like this coffee as an everyday, light/med roast. It's citrus-y right away and mellows into a more mild earthiness. I prefer it as iced instead of hot, both as cold brew and chilled.
I've been ordering products from this company since June 2018. So when they offered to send me a sample of this coffee in exchange for my honest review, I jumped at the opportunity. I'm not a coffee connoisseur by ANY stretch of the imagination. So when other reviewers comment on the citrus/cedar notes, I'm left baffled. I don't make it a habit to gnaw on wood, so I wouldn't have a clue as to what cedar tastes like. All I know is that I usually enjoy a light roast coffee but I found this medium-light one very good. It was smooth and had a delicious flavor. It made me want to drink more. I like that it comes in a ziptop bag for freshness. I would definitely order this in the future!!
The citrus and woodsy accents are a bit overwhelming for my taste buds. There is also a zesty aftertaste that lingers for awhile. I mixed this blend with almond milk creamer and coconut creamer, and also tried it as an iced coffee, and enjoyed it better. Overall, not my favorite blend, but it gets the job done.
First off, the description on the bag is spot on - which is helpful when you're trying a new coffee. The initial sip has a surprising acidity to it which opens the citrus and woody notes that comes with subsequent sips. It's the "mouth watering" effect. A very tasty cup of joe best had black and unmasked by cream or sugar, if you like the sharper tones.
This is an excellent, smooth blend that I really enjoyed. I typically prefer spicy notes over sweet or citrus-y, but the cedar balances it out very nicely. Would definitely recommend, and will be drinking it again!
